Init Sa Magdamag May 10, 2022

As the drama-romance series comes to a close, the directors and cast of ABS-CBN’s Init sa Magdamag reflect on the memorable scenes they shot and the challenges they faced.

Yam Concepcion (playing Rita, the wife of Peterson, portrayed by JM De Guzman) shared her memories of the series in a virtual media conference. “Bawat eksena kasi pinapahalagahan ko. So talagang may certain memory siya na naiiwan sa akin.”

One was the opening sequence of the pilot episode. “Yung nag-aayos ako ng DVDs, simple lang yun. Pero sabi, ‘Oh my goodness, ito na …’ It was the opening shot. She recalled that it was a special moment for her.

Yam also mentioned her character’s encounters with her abusive husband Peterson, which were trending on TikTok and the iconic waterfall scene featuring Tupe (played here by Gerald Anderson), as some of her most memorable scenes.

She answered that she learned life lessons from her character when asked what her life lessons were. “Fight for the marriage until it’s possible, be a good spouse, and enjoy the ride,” she said.

Init sa magdamag will be the actress’ break. She plans to learn a new skill or hobby.

JM spoke out about how the series had changed his life. He said that “Siguro Lumalayo Na Ako Sa Stress Ngayon.” Mas vi-na-value ko ngayon yung peace of mind ko kasi yung proseso nung paggawa ng teleserye medyo sobra akong na-stress and nahirapan akong maka-recover.”

The accident that caused him to be injured was his most memorable moment while filming. Because of one scene, I had to have four stitches in my head. It is something I will never forget. Every time I look in the mirror, I see the scar.

Gerald was, for his part, “grateful” to the team for being able put on a good show despite all of the challenges they faced. “Sobrang fulfilling siya. Dahil alam ko yung sitwasyon kung saan kami nag-taping at ano ang sistema ng taping namin. Kumbaga dugo’t pawis ang binuhos namin sa show. We are just glad with the result.”

He also mentioned how easy it was for him to relate to the character of Tupe, a barrio physician and Peterson’s adversary. “You must keep positive in spite of the difficulties. He shared that he believes it is because of this, he could relate to his character.

The series also taught him to remember who you are and what your values were. “‘Wag mong kalimutan yung core mo, kung sino ka. Kung ano yung pagkatao mo.”

One of the hardest parts of being Tupe for Gerald is to be a donor of sperm to Rita. He said, “It worked (in the Teleserye), but sa totoong Buhay malaking conflict Yun eh… As an individual, it’s difficult to do that.”

Gerald mentioned that the scene of Yam and Gerald at the waterfall was a difficult scene to shoot. He added, “Kasiang lamig ng tubeig.” Each day was really difficult.”

When asked if he would be willing to donate sperm in real life, he replied, “It all depends on the circumstances of the person asking.” Of course, no. Kasi yung unang anak ko gusto ko sa taong mahal ko. At gusto kong makasama yung bata at akin yung bata.”

The controversial scene in which Peterson beat Rita up had the greatest impact on Raymund Ocampo, director.

“Doing that scene was hard, but it was fun. He told The STAR that nangyari rin sa akin is real in real life. “Hindi ako yung nabugbog. I was not the battered spouse. Pero yung mom ko. Sobrang andami kong hugot duon sa eksena na yun.”

This was also part of his advocacy for violence. “Kasi nakikita ng mga tao na ito (referring to the battered wife scene) ang mangyayari kapag ganito ang sitwasyon or ginagawa ng asawa. Maraming nag flashback sa’kin while doing this.

The STAR also heard from Ian Lorendos, the director of the series. He shared his story with The STAR about how it was one of the most important chapters in his life. They formed a real friendship behind the scenes, despite the difficulties of filming the teleserye every single day and the exhaustion.

direk Ian said, “It’s more than a job.” “I don’t really speak for everyone. Hindi rin ako masyadong nakasama sa lahat pero na-appreciate ko yung honesty ng bawat isa. They are not only a coworker, but they are also a person.

He realized something while working on the series: “Lahat tayo might kanyakanyang quirks.” Lahat kami tao, hindi sila superstar. May kanya-kanyang pamilya din. May kanya–kanyang nagpapa–saya at nagpapa–lungkot sa Kanila.” This is the memory he will treasure after the project.

Yam was also asked about her honeymoon and advice on how to settle down. Intimate ceremonies in the United States were the reason that the actress got married to Miguel Cuunjieng, her longtime boyfriend. They have yet to spend their honeymoon.

Yam stated that it is difficult to have a honeymoon. “Parang nagui-guilty nulty naman anako na magsaya masyado with what’s going on in the world.” We will get there. We’re also on a honeymoon in our apartment (laughs).

She said, “It really depends on the person. It all depends on the individual. Only you will know when you are ready. Hindi ako, hindi kahit sino, sarili mo. You can do whatever makes you happy. It will all come eventually.”
